PART 1: GENERAL

1.1 PRINCIPAL WORK IN THIS SECTION

  1. Brine Tank for underground installation, double wall, horizontal, cylindrical, fiberglass tank, compatible with potable water products.

1.2 QUALITY ASSURANCE

  1. Refer to Section __________: General Provisions for Plumbing Work.
  2. Reference Standards:
    1. Tank manufacturer shall be listed by NSF under NSF/ANSI Standard 61 Drinking Water System Components – Health Effects.
    2. Tank manufacturer shall be in the business of manufacturing tanks with materials conforming to the requirements of ANSI/AWWA D120-02 Thermosetting Fiberglass-Reinforced Plastic Tanks
    3. Tank manufacturer shall be in the business of manufacturing tanks to UL 1316 standards
    4. American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standards ASTM D883: Standard Terminology Related to Plastics.
    5. U.L. - Underwriters Laboratories, Inc.

1.3 SUBMITTALS

  1. Submit product data, drawings, and test reports for the following items per the provisions of Division 1 and this division's General Provisions:
    1. The manufacturer shall submit a complete set of scale shop drawings detailing dimensions of heights, diameter, elevations to invert, pipe sizes, pipe connections, fittings and other appurtenances.
    2. Catalog data.
    3. Manufacturer’s installation instructions.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURERS

  1. Underground Brine Tanks:
    1. BrineMaker, Inc. 800-998-7345
    2. Or approved equal

2.2 FIBERGLASS UNDERGROUND NSF LISTED STORAGE TANK (listed for Potable Water)

  1. Loading Conditions – The brine tank shall meet the following design criteria:
    1. Internal Load – All brine tanks shall be testable and shall withstand a 5-psig air-pressure test with 5:1 safety factor. Maximum test pressure is 5 psig.
    2. Surface Loads – brine tank shall withstand surface H-20 and HS-20 axle loads when properly installed according to manufacturers current Installation Manual and Operating Guidelines.
    3. External Hydrostatic Pressure and Burial Depth – tank shall be capable of being buried in ground with 7' of overburden over the top of the tank, the hole fully flooded, and maintain a safety factor of 5:1 against general buckling.
    4. The brine tank shall support accessory equipment – such as manways, manway extensions, collar/ risers, FRP inlet/outlet piping, baffle wall, anti-vortex plates and pump platforms when installed according to tank manufacturers current Installation Manual and Operating Guidelines.
    5. Buried tanks shall be manufactured with integral trapezoidal ribs for structural integrity.
  2. Product Storage
    1. Tank shall be capable of handling liquids with specific gravity up to 1.3.
    2. Tank shall be vented to atmospheric pressure.
    3. Tank shall be capable of handling salt brine at ambient temperature.
  3. Materials
    1. Tank shall be manufactured with 100% premium resin (Terephthalic polyester or highly cross-linked Isophthalic polyester resins for the exterior and NSF Listed resin for the interior only), and chopped glass. No fillers or extenders shall be used. No General, Orthophthalic, or odd lot resin shall be used.
    2. All associated internal mounting hardware shall be rustproof.
    3. All exposed internal FRP components to be constructed using NSF listed materials.
    4. All materials used in the construction of the vessel and appurtenances shall be compatible with salt brine.
  4. Interstitial Space for Double-Wall Application
    1. Tank shall have a space between the primary and secondary walls to allow for the free flow and containment of leaked product from the primary tank. The space also allows the insertion of a monitoring device through a monitoring fitting.
    2. Each interstitial space monitor fitting shall consist of a 4" NPT fitting.

2.3 ACCESSORIES

  1. Manway Opening
    1. Provide at least one manway opening.
    2. All manway openings shall be FRP, flanged, and a minimum of 30" (based on drawing), complete with gaskets, bolts, and covers.
    3. Show location(s) on submittal drawings.
    4. Tank manufacturer shall provide FRP manway extensions as required to the surface.
  2. Internal Piping
    1. All internal piping shall meet ANSI/NSF Standard 61.
    2. Location is shown on submittal drawings.
  3. Fittings
    1. All FRP nozzles shall be flat-faced, flanged (gusseted when needed), and conform to ANSI B16.5 150# bolting pattern and shall meet ANSI/NSF Standard 61.
    2. All threaded fittings shall be constructed of FRP, 304 or 316 Stainless Steel, or PVC.
  4. Lifting Lugs
    1. All Tanks shall have lifting lugs that are capable of withstanding weight of tank with a safety factor of at least 2:1.
  5. Anchoring
    1. Straps shall be FRP anchor straps as supplied by tank manufacturer.
    2. Number and location of straps shall be shown on submittal drawings.
    3. 12" concrete anchor slab shall be provided as indicated on the drawings.
  6. Ladders
    1. FRP ladder(s) shall be NSF Listed under ANSI/NSF Standard 61 as supplied by tank manufacturer.
  7. Warranty
    1. Provide standard manufacturer's warranty for the tank and components. In no case shall the warranty be less than 1-year.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION

  1. Tank shall be installed according to the Manufacturer's Installation Manual and Operating Guidelines for Underground Brine Tanks.

3.2 TESTS

  1. Tank shall be tested according to the Manufacturer's Installation Manual and Operating Guidelines for Underground Brine Tanks.
